Top tips on making the most out of your presentation
- Am I passionate about my message?
- Could I speak without notes?
- Do I have something really important to say?
- Do they focus on my slides or me?
- Can they see what I’m showing?
- Can I say it with fewer words?
- Are my slides well designed… or just decorated?
- Pay attention to the housekeeping issues?
- Do I control the environment?
- Am I hiding behind the podium?
- Have I tested my audio and video?
- What if my slide animations fail?
- What do I do if the power fails?
- Death by logos, acronyms and Umms and Ahhs.
- Don’t make your host look bad!
- Am I selling or teaching?
- Am I trying to say too much?
- Have I said too little?
- Have I prepared enough?
- Do I know my audience?
- Will my stories be remembered?
- Have I backed up my arguments with research? If you can’t prove it… don’t say it.
- Did I say to use research that is credible?
- Am I rounding my numbers?
- Have I checked all my facts?
- Have I given proper credit?
- What do I want them to think, feel and do?
- What should their result be if they act on my words?
- What can they take away?
- Do I end on schedule? Build up to your finish. End on a crescendo. Start well, maintain, and end well. Save your impact for last.
- Am I ready for questions? Brush up on the topic and the space.
- Can I record my presentation? It’s a lot better than trying to recreate it later.
- Follow up with the people in your audience who reach out.
- Check consistency and spelling
- Don’t put light color text on a dark background on your slides - At least if you want your content to be read.
- Don’t use ALL CAPS IN YOUR SLIDE COPY
